John Davidson

Hi, I'm John and I am a journalist based in Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland. I've worked in national and local newspapers in Scotland and had outdoors work published in a number of publications.

I am happy to consider commissions for work related to cycling, mountain biking, walking or mountaineering. To contact me regarding my work, please use the form here [link].

Active Outdoors

I write a popular column called Active Outdoors for The Inverness Courier which carries both a suggested bike route and a walking route around Inverness or the Highlands each month. I write an account of the route, including directions, and supply the photographs, and the column also comes with basic route maps. It is published on the third Friday of each month and has been running since May 2008.

Wild Walks - TGO Magazine

I have written a series of 'Wild Walks' for The Great Outdoors magazine. These are a regular series of high-level mountain routes published each month from different parts of the UK. My own contribution to the series comes primarily from Scotland, and mostly from the Highlands. It involves a write-up of the day on the mountains, along with a route plan and other information about the walk, plus a selection of photographs from the route.

Kilimanjaro - The Herald Magazine

I wrote a full-page feature for The Herald Magazine (25 August 2007) on my experiences of an organised trek up Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

Sustrans

I am a volunteer for the sustainable transport charity Sustrans, which involves helping to look after the National Cycle Network in the Inverness and Moray area. I have also written articles for various Sustrans publications, including selected routes in the area.

The picture panel shows (clockwise from top left) Bruach na Frithe, a Sustrans millennium milepost in Moray, Clachnaharry signal box, North Kessock and the Beauly Firth from the Kessock Bridge, John on the north-west ridge of Bruach na Frithe, cyclists in Carrbridge woodland, sunset over Inverness and Strathconon hills, and Loch Oich and Loch Ness from the Great Glen Way near Laggan.
